Robert Douglas
Hedequist
October 17, 1928 – February 14, 2024
We lovingly remember Dr. Robert "Bobby Bear" Hedequist, born to Ethel McGee in 1928, whose life journey embodied the epitome of devotion as a father, husband, respected physician, community advocate, devout Catholic, and sports enthusiast. His passing leaves a void filled with cherished memories and lasting impact.
Robert's formative years began in Seattle and continued at a military academy in Tacoma, setting the stage for a life marked by discipline, compassion, and service. He graduated from O'Dea High School, where he first showcased his academic and athletic talents. At Seattle University, Robert excelled in basketball and baseball, balancing his love for sports with a strong academic focus.
His time at St. Edwards Seminary was a period of profound introspection, leading to the realization that his true calling lay in the field of medicine. This revelation guided him to Creighton Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska, a significant milestone where he not only earned his medical degree but also met Jane, his beloved first wife.
The couple's move to Spokane in 1960 marked the beginning of Dr. Hedequist's distinguished 36-year career as an OBGYN. His medical practice was more than a profession; it was a commitment to care for and support countless families, earning him deep respect and gratitude in the community.
After the passing of Jane in 1996, Dr. Hedequist continued to serve his community and maintain his strong Catholic faith. His life was blessed with renewed love and joy when he married Susan Hedequist in 1999, expanding his family to include five more grown children. The ensuing 25 years with Sue were a testament to their shared values of love, commitment, and faith, enveloping their large family of 11 children, 24 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Dr. Robert Douglas Hedequist passed away peacefully on Valentine's Day, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. His remarkable life, from his humble beginnings to a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering service, will forever be held in the hearts of those who knew him.
