Obituary

"Remembering a Life Well Lived"

Robert L Morgan was born on February 8, 1933 to Gladys and Earnest Morgan.   He passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021 at Sacred Heart Medical Center with family present. He lived in Tonasket, WA and the family moved to Clarkston when he was 4 years old.

He excelled in athletics earning 11 letters in football, baseball, basketball and track. He was President of the Senior Class and Valedictorian at Clarkson High School and received his Eagle Scout award then.

He attended Washington State University in 1951 and played varsity basketball as a sophomore.  While there he was elected President of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and also President of the Interfraternity Council.

He was a staunch Cougar and served as President of the WSU alumni association and was named "Dad of the year" when his son was a student at WSU.  In 1990 he received the "WSU Alumni Achievement Award" for his numerous contributions to the school, and in 2013 he was awarded the "Diamond Donors Award" in recognition of 50 years of generous financial assistance to the University.

He and Mary Ruddell were married on October 1 st , 1955 in Lewiston Idaho and recently celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary.

After graduation Bob entered the United States Air Force and attended flight school in Texas where he became a pilot and flew B-25's.

Bob spent his entire career in the financial services industry.  He was Regional Vice President of Provident Life Insurance Company, and then became a Financial Consultant with Foster Marshall, the present-day Morgan Stanley.  He thoroughly enjoyed working with his clients to better their financial life.  He served over 500 clients when he retired at 70 years of age.

Bob was a lover of life and especially enjoyed raising their three children Jeff, Terri, and Roger Morgan in Spokane.  He was active in all of their activities and interests and also those of his 7 grandchildren.  They were all the apple of his eye and they enjoyed being with him particularly at Priest Lake Idaho where the family has had a home for over 50 years. Many summers were spent there with children, grandchildren, friends and relatives. They all enjoyed his campfires, smores, and songs. He made each child feel special, and he seldom had a cross word for anyone.

Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and was very involved in Church life.  He was Chairman of the Finance Committee during the planning and early building of the current church campus.  Sacred Heart recently celebrated the 50 th Anniversary of the consecration of the new church.

Bob also volunteered his time with many other community organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Christmas Bureau.  He served as President of the Morningstar Foundation and served on the Boards of the Spokane Civic Theater and the Spokane Symphony.

He was a member of Manito Golf and Country Club for 40 years, a former member of the Spokane Club where he was an active squash player, and the Spokane Racquet Club where he was a regular on the tennis courts.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and an ability to make everyone laugh.  He was witty even in his final hours at Sacred Heart Hospital.

He and Mary were fortunate to have many travel adventures.  Some of their favorites were rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, spending 5 weeks each year at Sea Mountain on the Big Island of Hawaii, Ireland with the Limerick Society, Wales, China, Australia, New Zealand, England, the Scandinavian Capitals, and St. Petersburg, South Africa was a great experience as well.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife Mary, sons Jeff and Roger Morgan, daughter Terri Coombs and Scott Coombs, Grandsons Tyler Morgan, Matt Coombs, John Coombs (Natalie), Granddaughters Jen Morgan, Carly Morgan, Lauren Coombs, and Christine Coombs (Ross Nauman), Great Grandchildren Madeline and Henry Coombs, and Hadleigh and Brynleigh Nauman.  His sister Barbara Auer of Clarkston, and sister-in-law Patti Edelblute of Spokane, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob's family graveside inurnment will be at Queen of Peace Cemetery.  His celebration of life will be held at Sacred Heart Church when it is possible to gather.
