Robert "Bob" Shogren, (81) passed away surrounded by family on December 7, 2022 in Spokane, WA.
He was born on March 20 1941, in Saint Paul, MN to Estella and Robert J Shogren. He moved to
Richland, WA when he was a toddler, where he enjoyed duck hunting on the Yakima River with his dad
and brother Gordon. He graduated from Richland High School in 1959. After Graduating high school, he
attended Columbia Basin Jr College before moving to Butte, MT to attend Montana School of Mines,
graduating with a BS and master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He later received a distinguished
alumni award.
After college, he went to work for Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood in Spokane. He met his wife Helen of 47
years in Spokane. They married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spokane Valley on May 24, 1975. Bob
and Helen settled in Newman Lake where they raised 4 children and were very involved in the
community.
Bob Worked for Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood for 30+ years holding numerous supervisory and
managerial positions including internal plant metallurgical processing, product engineering, physical
and chemical test laboratories, and retiring as the Technical/Quality Assurance Manager. He served as
the Chairman of the Inland Empire Chapter of the ASM for 10 years. After retirement, he continued
consulting for the aluminum industry at various locations including Todd Shipyards in Seattle.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt, but he got more pleasure by watching others
catch fish as he was always the one running the boat. He also loved sports, he rarely missed one of his
kids' sporting events.
Bob was a simple man who loved his family and was a devout Catholic. He was preceded in death by his
parents Robert and Estella Shogren and his brother Gordon Shogren.
He is survived by his wife Helen, children Robert (Sarah) Shogren, Paul (Amy) Shogren, John (Lacy)
Shogren, Sarah (John) Clyde and 7 grandchildren- Robby, Olivia, Audrey, Lucy, Walt, Rose, Jack. He also
leaves behind many nieces and nephews, family, friends, and his beloved dog Winnie.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Bob's name.
The funeral mass will be live streamed for those who cannot attend at stjoeparish.org.
