Roy R
Mediaty
February 25, 1929 – April 12, 2023
Roy Robert Mediaty passed away peacefully on April 12, 2023 at Pine Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center. He was born on February 25, 1929 to Domenic and Erma Mediaty and lived his life in Spokane, Washington.
Roy was always very athletic and participated in many sports while attending Rogers High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Navy Reserves. In 1952, Roy married Bonnie Schaefer and together they raised their two daughters in North Spokane. Also in 1952, he began his career as a firefighter with the Spokane City Fire Department. He served the Spokane community for 35 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1987. Roy loved his job and firefighting family, keeping several close friends throughout his retirement years. He served on the Board of Directors for the Spokane Firefighters Credit Union for over 40 years.
One of Roy's passions in life was hunting, especially pheasants and ducks. He enjoyed hunting with dogs he raised and trained himself. He participated in local field trials, where he collected numerous trophies and stories over the years. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Deer Lake, where he fished and waterskied with many loved ones.
Later in life, he met and married his wife, Beverly, who survives him. Roy is also survived by his daughters, Lori Orr and Teri Cornish, grandchildren Adria Meno (Geoff), Anali Charbonneau (Matthew), Tyler Cornish (Amy), and Ryan Cornish, eight great-grandchildren, his sister Ella Donahoe, and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy also has many cousins, including Maria Mediati, Joseph Burrell, Carl Burrell, and Patricia Burrell, all of Spokane. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Spokane or the charity of your choice in his name.
A special thank you to everyone who visited Roy during his last two years and to the staff at Pine Ridge Alzheimer's Special Care Center. The love and care you showed made his remaining time easier.
