Obituary

Roy William Penna passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital on Dec 14, 2022, after a brief respiratory illness.  Roy was born in Spokane on December 6, 1927 to Antonio and Virginia Penna. He had 11 siblings and was the youngest of 6 boys.
Roy was shy about little and if you spent much time with him, you soon learned what was important to him: His Italian heritage, being a Penna, golf, traveling to Hawaii and around the country, hosting large gatherings, his many close friends - some going back to grade school, sports, but more than anything, his family. And most importantly, his "ever-lovin", Ali.
Roy took great pride in growing up in Hillyard and played football at Rogers HS - from guard to starting quarterback his senior year.  He was a member of the Air National Guard and served in England maintaining F-86 Sabre-jets during the Korean conflict. Roy worked for Inland Casket Co for 29 years and rose to the level of plant manager.  He went on to work 13 years for Spokane County in the Appraiser's office.  In early retirement years, he worked part time in the pro shop at Indian Canyon golf course.  Golf became increasingly important in retirement and was often the focus of trips to Canada, Hawaii and locally.  Roy enjoyed many activities over the years - fishing, camping, snow and water skiing and golf. He encouraged everyone to join in.  For years he organized a neighborhood fun run for friends and family that he called, the Guido-Ponzini-Funa-Run.
Being 95 and coming from a very large family, Roy was preceded in death by numerous family members, notably, son James (at birth) and granddaughter Kathleen Penna, and most of his close friends.
Roy is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Alice (Anderson) Penna.  Sons: Roy (Rene) of Cheney WA, Patrick (Sandie) of Edmonds WA, Gerald (Miho) of Bothell WA. Grandchildren: Jessica, Christopher, Sophia.  Great-grandchildren: Anna, Lily and William.  He will be missed greatly by those of us that survive him.
The family would like to thank cousins Bob Kellogg, Marie Sanders, Don Penna and longtime friend Gary Lindeblad, for their love and support during Dad's later years.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
A private inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.  A celebration of life may be held at a later date.
