Samuel
Decaro
January 21, 1951 – June 2, 2025
Sammy Bobby was born on January 21, 1951 in Spokane, WA to Joseph and Rosella DeCaro, he was a 1st generation Italian in the United States. He grew up in Spokane, WA where he graduated from North Central High School (even though he spent more time at Roger's) in 1969. At 17, he started working at Burlington Northern with his dad, he retired as a crew caller on disability in 1989.
On June 30, 1975, he married Karla. This year they would have celebrated their 50th year anniversary together. They had 6 kids. Renae DeCaro, Jennifer (& Jeremy) Licha (Brownsburg, IN), 1937 Chevy, Toni DeCaro (only remembered her birthday because it was a year to the day after he got his 1937 Chevy), David DeCaro (Grantsville, UT) and his 1967 Pontiac.
Sam has 8 grandchildren, David "Vinny" DeCaro-Brown, Angelo Huggins, Adalgisa DeCaro, Ivan DeCaro, Jaelynn Licha, Joanie Licha, Jamie Licha, and Arianna DeCaro.
Sam's favorite child was his 1937 chevy sedan he built from the ground up. It was his only child that would not complain about the money he spent on it. He loved going to car shows and cruising. He was the NSRA (National Street Rod Association) and Goodguys representatives. He started various car shows that are still going strong in Spokane to this day.
Sam loved being involved in his children's lives. He coached his son's flag football team, put on the senior all-nights at Roger's High School where his children attended and if feeling good would attend his kid's and grandkids events. He loved Halloween and often spent it in Indiana with his granddaughters because he enjoyed trick or treating and the events they would do for the holiday. He would also spend his time traveling to Utah to watch his grandson play hockey.
Sam made friends wherever he went and treated everyone like family. If you knocked on the door to his house he would welcome you. If you wanted food or drink he would yell Hazel (TV Series) died get it yourself. If visiting Sam at home or the hospital he would be watching the Hallmark Channel or true crime unless it was football season then it was all about the Washington Huskies.
