Shannon Eileen (Linden) Armstrong
May 23, 1951 – August 25, 2024
Shannon Eileen Armstrong, a woman of Faith, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and prayer on August 25, 2024, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington—the very hospital where she was born on May 23, 1951. She was the cherished daughter of Patricia and Robert M. Linden and was predeceased by them, her brother, Patrick Linden, and her sister, Erin Linden. In her parents' final years, she was their selfless caregiver- surrounding them with love, care, and joy.
Shannon grew up on Spokane's South Hill and attended Saint Augustine Catholic School, later graduating from Marycliff High School. She pursued her passion for teaching at Eastern Washington University, where she developed a unwavering commitment to education. Shannon was an extraordinary teacher, bringing lessons to life in the most creative and inspiring ways, and a lifelong student, always driven by a constant curiosity and zest for life—qualities she passed along to her children and grandchildren.
Above all, Shannon aspired to be a mother, a role she embraced with unparalleled love and dedication. She was the devoted mother of Regan Lamb (Christopher), Shelbie Clement (Jay), and Kevin Armstrong. She was the proud grandmother of Andrew, Michael, and Shelbie Lamb; Madeline and James Clement; and Cole, Caleb, and Carter Armstrong. She was also the beloved aunt of Sean Linden (Colleen) and the cherished sister and best friend of Molly Linden, who shared in her life's joys and many adventures.
Throughout her life, Shannon left an indelible mark on countless students across the world, from Washington State to Yemen and Saudi Arabia, instilling in them a deep love of learning. In each community she called home, Shannon touched the lives of those around her with her kindness, compassion, wisdom, generosity, and boundless energy.
Shannon was a thespian, a writer, a storyteller, an educator, a Sunday school teacher, a Girl Scout leader, a mentor, an activist, volunteer, world traveler, and a community gatherer. She made a positive difference in every life she touched. Her legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.
Shannon will be deeply missed. A Funeral Mass in celebration of her life will be held on October 14th at 11:00 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Spokane, Washington. Family and friends are warmly invited to come together to honor the remarkable life she lived.
For those who wish to commemorate Shannon's memory, contributions in her name to the Malala Fund—an organization close to her heart, dedicated to educating girls around the world—would be deeply appreciated (www.malala.org). Her online memorial page can be found at www.holycrossofspokane.org
