Sharon Ann
Huffman
August 26, 1946 – May 31, 2025
Sharon - a cherished wife, mom, grandmother (Janny), sister, and friend - passed away in Spokane, Washington on May 31,2025 at the age of 78. Born in Spokane in 1946 to Rich and Betty Mesmer, Sharon lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections. She married the love of her life, Terry, at just 20 years old and together they raised two children, Lisa and Paul. Sharon was a proud and devoted grandmother to Jessica, Gunnar, Sarah, and Cannan.
She graduated from Shadle Park High School and then went on to graduate with a teaching degree from Holy Names Women's College before finding her forever job at Medical Lake Elementary/ Hallett Elementary School.
A passionate and inspiring educator, Sharon touched the lives of countless students as a fifth grade teacher. She made many long-lasting friendships with her fellow coworkers. Her dedication of 34 years to her profession earned her recognition in 'Who's Who Among American Teachers', a national book publication that listed teachers who were nominated by their students for their dedication, impact, and influence.
Sharon had a deep love for her family and friends and a joy for life that was infectious. She found happiness in the simple pleasures - vegetable and flower gardening, canning, cooking (pies were her specialty), sharing a good cup of coffee at the Nordstrom Cafe, and expressing her style through fashion, hair, and makeup. She was always a bright light in every room she entered.
While she was raising her family and teaching full time, she took the opportunity to travel the world. Whether it was with friends to China, her family to Europe, or her many trips to Mexico with her husband, Terry, she found delight in architecture and people everywhere. She filled many journals and photo albums of these cherished moments with the people she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Terry; her children, Lisa (Jim) and Paul (Staci); her grandchildren, Jessica, Gunnar (Kelsie), Sarah, and Cannan; and her brother's, Richard and Gregg (Diane). She was preceded in death by her parents, Rich and Betty Mesmer.
Her funeral service will be Friday, June 13, 2025 at 12:00 pm, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the community church of your choice, in Sharon's memory.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished and loved. Online memorial page can be found at www.holycrossofspokane.org
