Obituary

Shawn Micheal Kopczick was born April 2, 1978 in Carbondale, Illinois to
Skip and Kathleen Kopczick. The depth of his strength knew no limits in his battle
with esophageal cancer for the past 14 months. His positive attitude during his
treatment was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was surrounded by his
family and loved ones when he passed away at home on November 29, 2023.
Shawn lived most of his life in Spokane, Washington. He attended Shadle Park
High School where he met the love of his life, Melissa. Shawn and Melissa
married in August of 2000 and have three children Dylan (24) (Ashley), Ashton
(21), and Taylor (20). In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his
parents Skip (Pam) and Kathy (Randy), his brother Eric (Lourdes) and sister Cali,
and numerous members of his large and loving family.
Shawn rarely went anywhere without seeing someone he knew or without
making a new friend due to his gift of gab, kindness, and sincerity. A pioneer and
shining example of a stay-at-home dad, he was able to fulfill his greatest
accomplishments of supporting and nurturing his children and wife. He could be
found spending his "free" time at Starbucks with his friends, volunteering at Saint
Thomas More Parish and School, instilling a sense of excitement for adventure
on hikes and picnics with his family, coaching a baseball team for his kids,
tinkering with his cars, or tackling any home project that came his way. He taught
us all how to love unconditionally, how to be brave when facing the unknown, and
most of all, how to treat one another with respect.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the wonderful care he
received from the team at the MultiCare Cancer Center.
Please feel free to donate in Shawn's name to Cancer Research or National or
State Parks in lieu of flowers.
