Stephen W
Gese
December 14, 1954 – December 13, 2024
With heavy hearts we regret to announce the tragic and unexpected death of Stephen W. Gese. He passed away in the ICU at Deaconess Hospital on the evening of Friday, December 13, 2024, less than a day away from his 70th birthday. His wife and three children were at his side, holding his hands, assuring him that he was loved deeply and would be missed by all who knew him.
Stephen (Steve) is survived by his wife, Cindy Gese of 43 years; his children, Natalie Gese, Chelsea Gese and Stephen Gese; his six grandchildren; his siblings Paul, Joe, Debbie, Connie, Jane, Teresa, and late brother Terry.
Always full of energy and determination, Steve worked hard in every facet of his life. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School through 8th grade and graduated from Joel E. Ferris high school in 1972. He then went to SCC and became a master welder and obtained a SCUBA certification. Working at Welk Brothers in steel manufacturing, he considered underwater welding as a profession. When he found out his wife Cindy was pregnant with their first child, he decided against underwater welding due to the risk. A few years later he took a new job opportunity at Spokane Metal Products where he worked for the rest of his life, becoming a supervisor and manager specializing in custom stainless-steel manufacturing. He traveled domestically and internationally to provide training and design customization on fueling and defueling systems. He contributed to the patenting of these systems. They were eventually used in Airforce UAV's and various Airbus aircraft applications.
Steve loved downhill skiing and was first introduced to skiing when his best friend and neighbor Alan (Al) invited him along. Al's dad Gordon was on the Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol. Eventually in the late 80's, Steve joined the Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol with Al. He remained on the Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol for more than three decades. Steve met some of his best friends while serving on the Ski Patrol, including his dear friend Bob.
In addition to skiing, Steve loved road biking, hiking, gardening and dabbling in bee keeping. He built a house in 1989 next door to his parents and helped them tend the collective 5 acres. He always planted a large garden and loved tending his land in Glenrose.
Steve was a true salt-of-the-earth man to anyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. All who knew him will miss his love, friendship, loyalty, and laughter. Peace be with you.
A funeral service and reception will be held for Steve at St. Peter's Catholic on Thursday, January 9th, 11:00 AM, followed by a procession to the Holy Cross Cemetery. A short burial ceremony will be held at the Mausoleum.
