Obituary

Terry Ann LaLone, mother of four children, grandmother of six
grandchildren, and the beloved wife of Thomas J. LaLone for 54 years, passed
away unexpectedly at her home in the early morning hours of February 17, 2022.
Terry was born on March 28, 1944 in Aberdeen, WA, to Robert and Lou Ann
Gassman.
Terry attended Holy Names for both grade school and high school. While there,
she forged very close friendships that would last for the rest of her life. In 1959 at
a Gonzaga Prep dance, Terry and her future husband to-be, Tom, were introduced
by their mutual friend and future priest, Father Peter Byrne, S.J. Tom and Terry
were married in 1963 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Spokane. They
spent the next 54 years together until Tom passed away in 2017.
To Terry's family and her numerous friends, she was kind, compassionate,
generous, and one of the most fun-loving people around. She had an infectious
smile, a larger than life personality, and the most energetic laugh in the Pacific
Northwest. She was a voracious reader and member of multiple book clubs. She
was the life of every party and her presence always lit up any room the moment
she entered. Terry was blessed with multiple talents that allowed her to never
forget a name, instantly recall personal details about people, and simply make
every one she came into contact with feel special and important. As her beloved
husband Tom wrote to her shortly before his death, "Terry, you are simply the
best!"
Terry had an insatiable appetite for adventure. She was an intrepid world traveler
from a young age. She loved learning about different cultures, traditions and
customs, and of, course, interacting with the locals in far-flung places across the
globe.
After devoting her life to raising her four children, she decided to turn her passion
for world travel into a thriving and bustling travel company, Edwards LaLone
Travel, an agency that still operates today in downtown Spokane. She built a
stellar reputation as a fastidious travel planner who always served up world-class
travel experiences for her numerous clients. While she loved trotting the globe,

one of her favorite places on earth was Lake Coeur d' Alene. From "F Dock" at the
Coeur d' Alene Resort, she and Tom provided countless happy hours, sleepovers,
water excursions, meals, and life-long lake memories for their family and friends.
Terry exemplified what it meant to live life in service to others. In addition to her
devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren, she was an active and
integral member of the Spokane community. She was the former President of
Junior League of Spokane. She supported numerous local, regional, and national
events and charities. She was actively involved as a volunteer for the Union
Gospel Mission, Women Helping Women, and Gonzaga Prep, where she and Tom
sent their four children to high school. She was also passionate about living a
faith-filled life as a devout Catholic. Over the years, she had been a member of St.
Augustine's Catholic Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Parish and St. Aloysius Parish.
Terry is survived by her children, Sydney Ann LaLone, Dwight Robert LaLone,
Theresa Lynn (LaLone) Keyes and her husband J. Michael Keyes, her
grandchildren, Jacob Keyes, Grace Keyes, Tess Keyes, Giselle Tevlin, Thomas
LaLone and Marley LaLone. Terry is also survived, by her sisters-in-law Jeanne
Ager, Julie Johnson, Janet Hart and Don Hart (brother-in-law), her brother-in-law
Lance LaLone and Patty Biesecher (sister-in-law). She was loved and took pride in
all of her nieces, nephews and grands and great-grands of those. Terry was
preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Tom LaLone, by her
parents, Robert and Lou Ann Gassman, her cherished son Grant Thomas LaLone,
and her sister-in-law Jill Bennet.
A rosary vigil service will be held at the Gonzaga Prep Chapel of the Three
Companions at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 24 (with a viewing starting at
5:00 p.m.). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Catholic
Church on Friday, February 25, at 12:00 p.m. (with a viewing starting at 11:00).
Reception will follow at Gonzaga Prep's Barbieri Center at 3:00 p.m., following a
short prayer service at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family would be honored to receive your support for the recently established
Terry and Tom LaLone Memorial Scholarship to recognize and support
outstanding students in the Gonzaga Prep tradition of academic excellence and

servant leadership. Donations can be sent directly to Gonzaga Prep at 1224 E.
Euclid Ave, Spokane, WA 99207.
