Ted passed away on December 24, 2025, in Spokane, WA. He was born February 29, 1952, in Pullman, WA, the son of John William and Irene Ann (Petron) Hanley. Ted attended St.

Anthony's grade school, Gonzaga Prep, and Gonzaga University (GU). To pay for his education at GU, he worked in the construction field as a Union Laborer during the summers. This led him to become a Journeyman Ironworker, a job he held for years. He became interested in trades education and taught part time at Spokane Community College (SCC) in the areas of welding, math, and sheet metal. While teaching at SCC, he enrolled at Eastern Washington University (EWU), earning a B.A. in Industrial Education and a B.A. in Computer Technology, eventually transitioning to teaching full-time at SCC. Three years later, he became a computer numerical control (CNC) programmer at Wagstaff Inc., where he worked for 31 years.

Ted was an excellent amateur photographer. He picked up the hobby after purchasing a camera at a yard sale as an elementary-school student. It was his favorite hobby throughout his life. He took countless photos of landscapes, flowers, the night sky, and the family over the years. He also loved music and movies, especially the music of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Hiking was a favorite activity of Ted and his daughter, Erynn.

He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church since 1983. Ted is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Hanley of Spokane and his daughter Erynn Hanley; brothers Vincent (Margaret) Hanley of Moscow, ID, Donald Hanley and Mark Hanley both of Spokane; his brother-in-law Joseph Moran (Julie) of Shakopee, MN, and sister-in-law Kellie Moran Burke of Bozeman, MT; nieces and nephews Monica, Mary, John, Anna, Jena, Harry, Sophie, Rita, and George. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Vigil services will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in the Mausoleum. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. and will be celebrated at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4515 N. Alberta St., Spokane, WA. Funeral reception to follow from 12:00 noon through 1:30 p.m., with committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St., Spokane, WA.
