Thomas M
Reisenauer
September 28, 1929 – July 31, 2023
Thomas Martin Reisenauer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, stepped into glory on July 31, 2023. He was surrounded by family and friends during his last days.
Born to Emil and Lucy (Spils) Reisenauer on September 28, 1929, in Colton, WA, Tom grew up on his family's farm alongside four sisters and three brothers. His early life was punctuated by serious illness and repeated hospitalizations from a farm accident when he was five years old. He graduated from Colton High School in 1947.
He met Emma (Andy) Anderson at the Lincoln County Fair and they married on May 5, 1959, in Odessa. Moving throughout the Northwest for work, he and Andy partnered with Tom's uncle, Fr. Jake Spils, to serve in what would later become the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Tom kept the Alaska mission's vehicles running and helped with the construction of the new Copper Valley School; Andy served as a nurse. In the early 1960s, they settled in Spokane to raise their family. Tom worked at St Vincent de Paul before taking a long-term job as a mechanic at Ray's Truck Service. In retirement, Tom continued fixing cars and began building beautiful, detailed furniture and customized birdhouses for his children and grandchildren.
Tom was known for his creativity and intelligence, especially apparent when presented with seemingly unsolvable problems. His wry, quick wit was always delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a not-so-secret smile. Throughout his life, he modeled two unshakeable values - unhesitating service for anyone in need, neighbor, friend, or stranger; and a commitment to excellence in every undertaking, whether mowing a lawn or parking cars for the G-Prep auction. As he would often say, "If you're going to do a job, do it well." He impressed these values deeply on his family and friends, and all who met him felt blessed by his kindness, generosity, and humor.
Thomas is survived by two sisters (Monica and Kathy), his children Dave (Cathleen), Tim, Christin (Clara), Brian (Barb), Eric (Kim), Tricia, and Jason (Katie); twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
