Thomas Michael Shine, of Spokane, Washington, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025 surrounded by two of his four daughters (Marie Shine Bonneau and Katie Shine) and two of his 10 grand children (Zach and Olivia Bonneau). Tom was born in Spokane, May 19, 1941 to Patrick Shine and Mary "Aleen" (Kelly) Shine and was the middle child of five. He attended St. Augustine's grade school, followed by Gonzaga preparatory school, where he graduated from in 1959. Tom was a gifted student athlete, and went on to play collegiate basketball for a few years before attending the School of Architecture at University of Idaho. Tom was very involved in the building committee at Gonzaga Prep and was honored with alumni of the year award in 2000. He had a strong commitment to his faith, his family, his friends, community, and the outdoors. Tom was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 58 years, Molly (Means) Shine. They raised four daughters who also attended St Augustines (Cataldo) and Gonzaga Prep. Tom had a love for the outdoors and spent time working for the forest service during college Summers. His love for the outdoors was illustrated in his watercolor paintings of some of his favorite places, and shared with his family during weekend camping trips, fishing, hiking, skiing, and walks through Manito and Cannon Hill parks. Thomas is survived by his four siblings, Kate Shrack, Patrick Shine, Sally Strasser, and Dennis Shine, four daughters, 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Tom and Molly's daughters and grandchildren are Michelle Fillichio of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and her three sons Blaine, Dean, and Beau; Marie Shine Bonneau of Spokane, WA and her two children, Zachary and Olivia; Gwen Morrison and her husband Mark of Nashville, TN and their son McRae and daughter Macie; Katie Shine of Spokane, WA and her son Jake Curley and wife Gabby of Lansing, Michigan, Emma Deason and her husband Jordan and their son Maverick of Kauai, Hawaii, and daughter Lily Curley of Pacific City, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Gonzaga preparatory school, Class of 1959 in Tom and Molly Shine's name. A Rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on January 22, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Spokane, Washington. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. on January 23, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at Queen of Peace Cemetery.
