Wayne R
Johnson
June 18, 1927 – December 1, 2021
A beloved Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 1, 2021.
Wayne was born in Big Piney, WY on June 18, 1927. At an early age, the family moved to Challis, ID. Wayne had a love of animals and enjoyed working on the family ranch with his family, the Forest Service and then in the nearby mines until enlisting in the Navy in 1945. After his discharge in 1946, he moved to Kellogg, Id. where he worked for the Bunker Hill Mine Company. While living in the Silver Valley, he met the love of his life, Rita Turbak.
Wayne married Rita Turbak in 1948 and settled in the Spokane Valley, where they remained for their 72-year marriage. Wayne started his auto repair business which he ran for 38 years. "Waynes' Garage" was a fixture in Millwood where automobiles were repaired and served as a "gathering place" for his closest friends. Wayne and Rita were active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church and had the distinction of being the longest tenured married members of the parish.
Wayne loved being surrounded by family and each gathering was special to him. Wayne will forever be remembered by family and friends for his acts of kindness and sage advice. He was always helping his children and grandchildren with special projects around their houses and their automobiles.
Wayne is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Vickie and John Forster, Debbie and John Clift, Teresa and Rob Cutshall, Wendy and Dan Malloy and Lisa and Dave Bosch, his son and daughter-in-law John and Lisa Johnson; 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; sister Phyllis Sidwell and his beloved blue heeler Betsy. He was preceded in death by his wife Rita, parents Clyde and Janet Johnson, brother Mel and sister Lilah O'Connor.
He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He blesses us all with the Legacy of Family, Love and Laughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne's name to the Salvation Army (Toys for Tots) and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Otis Orchards, Washington.
