Born June 8, 1943 in Concord, CA, William "Bill" R. Campbell died August 13, 2022 at Spokane Veterans Home, after a long good-bye, from complications of Alzheimer's. He is survived by his wife Patricia, to whom he said "I love you and I am a blessed man" every day; his children Siobhain (Alex), and Michael, who were his pride and joy. His grandson Marcus, who filled Bill's life with laughter and energy; step-grandson Gabriel, USMC, whom Bill taught to fish and build snow-forts. He is also survived by stepchildren Shannon (Tracy), Kimberly (Joe), Nicole (Howard), 5 step-grandchildren; Savannah, Heston, Crow, Adam, and Naomi; his brother Kenneth (Caroline); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Peter M. and Loretta (Morris) Campbell also his older brothers J. Frank, Larry, and sister Joan.
The Campbell's were devout Catholics, which set the foundation for Bill's strong faith. He joined the Navy in 1964. Flying in Aviation Patrol Squadrons in Viet Nam had a significant effect on the rest of his life. After his military service, he earned a bachelor's degree from Brooks Institute of Photography, becoming a respected published architectural photographer. He moved to Spokane to discern a call to the priesthood. During this process, he earned a master's degree in Spirituality from Gonzaga University. Bill became a powerful spiritual advisor, encourager, and often challenger, to everyone he met. He had the Irish gifts of charm and conversation. He enjoyed meeting people, especially from other cultures, and made friends wherever he went.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Veterans Charities or a charity of your choice. The family wants to express their profound gratitude to the staff at the Spokane Veterans Home for the exceptional care they gave Bill since 2020, becoming like a second family.
