Obituary

Wilma Mae Johnson (age 86) went home to Jesus on September 15, 2023 following a short stay at Spokane Hospice House.

She was born January 20, 1937 in Fort Sumner, NM, residing there and Melrose, NM before moving to Washington, where she lived in Waitsburg until 1955. She graduated from Wayland Baptist College (1959) and Whitworth College (1961) receiving her teaching certifications.

Wilma taught school in Spokane Valley in the early 60's, then in South America (1965-75). Returning to Washington she taught in Nespelem and Grand Coulee (1975-82) and finally in Moses Lake. Wilma played the piano at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Moses Lake where she was an active member from 1982-2019. She also taught piano until the mid 1990s. Wilma moved to Spokane in 2019 where she lived with her daughter, enjoying Sonia's care and companionship until her passing.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Sonia Harper and husband David of Colbert, WA; grandson Marc Harper who resides in France; her younger siblings, Joy of Monroe, WA and Ray of Grandview, WA. She was preceded in death by her older siblings, Wanda and Zane.
