Winifred "Winnie"
Joan Dejanovich
August 15, 1938 – December 1, 2023
Winifred "Winnie" DeJanovich passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, at Holy Family hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old.
Winnie was born in Kellogg, ID on August 15, 1938, to Eldon "Shorty" and Goldie Jaeger, the youngest of 5 children. She had a wonderful childhood in Kellogg making lifelong friends. Her favorite memories were her birthday slumber parties spent outside watching falling stars.
She married Mike DeJanovich, her high school sweetheart, on March 3, 1957, and had four children, Teri, Dan, Jeff, and Janie. Mike's 22 year Air Force career took them from Fairchild AFB to Montana, Japan, Arizona, California, Texas and finally back to Fairchild AFB in 1974. They bought their very first home in Spokane in 1976. Winnie was talented in so many areas, she could do almost anything from building decks, fences, cradles, even adding entire additions to an existing house. She flipped a house in the late 70s before flipping was a thing. She kept a beautiful, comfortable home and baked the best desserts. She loved to entertain and host parties for family and her high school classmates. She also loved traveling! Winnie and Mike traveled the world together with trips to Europe, Africa, Mexico, Canada, and the entire United States (most trips took a detour to Las Vegas and Reno – she loved to gamble).
Her family was her world, she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved teaching most of them to swim and dive in her backyard pool. She will be remembered as a generous, kind, dependable and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a strong Catholic woman who faced her 13 year Alzheimer's diagnosis with such courage and bravery. We are so thankful for her life. May she rest in peace.
Winnie is survived by her children Teri Silcock, Dan DeJanovich (Janice), Jeff DeJanovich, and Janie DeJanovich; grandchildren, Jenifer, Steve (Molly) and Nick (Emily) Silcock, Matt (Jill) and Rachel DeJanovich, Janae (Quinn) Holt and Kendra (Dylan) Lemery; 8 great grandchildren, her sister Carol Poulson, her brother Jim Jaeger, many nieces, nephews and friends. And we can't leave out her sweet dog Sassy.
Winnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Mike DeJanovich, her parents, sisters Jean Bellamy and Arlene Sorenson.
A private Catholic Mass will be held for Winnie.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Holy Family hospital for the amazing care they provided to our mother, especially the nurses on the 4th floor.
