Clara
Fischer
February 5, 1931 – September 7, 2022
Clara Fischer passed away on September 7, 2022, at 91 years old surrounded by her loving family. Born February 5, 1931, in Hebron, North Dakota, to Nikolaus and Barbara Schwartz. She was 1 of 14 children, all born on the family farm.
She married the love of her life, Tony Fischer, on June 7, 1952. Together they started their journey in San Pedro, California, via Greyhound bus from North Dakota with each having only 1 suitcase. Several moves later, they arrived in Spokane, Washington in 1962. Tony began to build single family homes in 1968 with Clara right alongside him helping with anything that needed to be done including painting, putting up insulation, and cleaning the homes to get ready for the new owners. They spent many Saturday nights down at the German American Hall in Spokane with many of their friends dancing to polka music and listening to Norm Seeberger play his accordion.
Clara's first love was her husband and family. She was an accomplished genealogist completing her family history as well as Tony's, all of this before the use of computers. She was a cook extraordinaire and had collected more than 4,000 cookbooks. Her family truly enjoyed her love of cooking German food and learning from her how to make many recipes including strudel and German potato salad. She enjoyed Brazilian embroidery and made several beautiful pillows and other pieces that have become family treasures.
On retirement, Dad and mom were snowbirds and traveled to Apache Junction, Arizona, for 10 years.
Clara is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Tony, at the home. Four children: Brenda Pottratz (Steve), Kelan Fischer, Ryne Fischer, and Rorie Fischer (Wende). Five grandchildren: Ty Pottratz (Shannon), Tiffany Long (Joe), Eric Fischer, Craig Fischer, and Christy Granger. Six great grandchildren: Kailey, Mason, Lilly, Sophie, Tessa, and Gabby.
